Dear Parents
There has been a lot of sport activity going on around the school
in preparation for the annual Hagley Sports competition. Netball,
Hockey, Rugby and Football teams are chomping at the bit to get started.
Parents are welcome to watch the teams perform at Hagley Park. For
additional information go to www.primarysportscanterbury.org.nz Good
luck Queenspark Teams!
Earthquake Renewal and Recovery: on
Thursday Andrew Swift (BOT Chairperson) and I attended a Ministry of
Education meeting about the draft 'Education Renewal Recovery Programme
for Christchurch'. The big picture outcomes are varied and not specific
to individual schools at this point. You might have read in the Press
about the launch of the Renewal and Recovery Programme. However, as we
move towards the end of May/beginning of June, more specific information
about individual schools will become known. I mention this as I know
many parents and our general community are wanting to know 'what is
happening to the school(s)' in our eastern area. The short answer is 'we
don't know.' The long answer is, ' we have to wait.' Be assured as soon
as the 'renewal and recovery' information is made public, we will
inform parents and our community as to how Queenspark School fits into
the Ministry of Education's plans.
As we move into the winter
months school uniform can change a little in what students wear. Please
check out our uniform code (on website) for details on what is allowed
to be worn as officially designated uniform.
Lets hope the good weather continues!
Manaaki Whenua, Manaaki Tangata, Haere whakamua!
Care for the land, Care for the people, Go forward!
Cheers

See 'Our Children' page for the list of those children who will be representing our school at the upcoming Eastern Zone Cross Country on Tuesday 29 May 2012.
Lost Scooters
A silver MGP scooter has been missing from around Room 19 since the holidays. This scooter is well named. Please check that your child has their scooter.
A ripstick-style scooter went missing from outside of room 11 on Tuesday. It is black with green on the footing area. Again this scooter is well named. Please return this to school.
It may be timely to talk to your children about scooter protocol - using theirs only and ensuring they check the name on the scooter before using it, whether that be during break times or after school.
Buggy Found
A baby buggy was left behind at school during the Easter Egg hunt run by Rechurch over the holidays. Please contact Hamish Taylor on 021-429-999 or email him on hamish@rechurch.co.nz

Community Dental Service
Canterbury District Health Board's Community Dental service mobile unit is now visiting our school.
What this means for you and your child is:
- All school aged children enrolled in the service will have their dental check-ups at school in a mobile dental clinic unit
- Some children may receive an enrolment form to bring home. Please complete and return to your school office as soon as possible to ensure your child receives the care you approve
- Examinations, x-rays and preventative treatment such as fissure sealants and fluoride treatments will be available at school in the mobile dental unit. If you have questions or DO NOT want any of these treatments for your child please call 0800-846-983 so that it can be noted on your child's record
- If your child requires other operative work such as fillings or extractions they will bring home a Care Plan indicating the work required. You will need to call the 0800-846-983 number to arrange a suitable time for you to bring your child to the appointment at the Community Dental Clinic
- The dental therapists will be on-site from Tuesday to Friday from 22 May.
